Adaptor kit to fit the ‘4-block’ early V8 Medium Torque convertor into a 300Tdi ZF auto transmission.

The 300Tdi small torque converter allows for a lot of torque converter slip, this is particularly wasteful when you have a torquey 300Tdi, the slip will not allow you to make the most of the 300Tdi’s low down torque if the engine has been tuned or a VNT turbocharger fitted.

This kit allows the use of the medium converter in replacement of the small converter as fitted in the standard 300Tdi auto. The ‘4-block’ medium torque converter was fitted to all early Land Rover V8 automatics. The medium converter doesn’t slip as much as the small and allows you to make use of the low down torque a 300tdi can produce.

The adaption makes use of the standard 300tdi auto bell housing and adaptor plate. A thin spacer fits behind the adaptor plate along with a new crankshaft spigot adaptor and ring gear/flex plate assembly. A modification is needed to the adaptor plate to allow access to the drive plate bolts – a jig is supplied to do this.
