In the early 1960’s, David Jackson, our Founder and Managing Director, started his engineering career as an apprentice at Perkins Engines; after completing his apprenticeship, he worked as a field service engineer with the company. 10 years later, in the early 70’s, David decided to set up his own business, and Motor & Diesel Engineering (M&D) began trading out of David’s parent’s garage. Initially, M&D’s speciality was rebuilding Perkins diesel engines, however the business very quickly outgrew the garage, and a new, bigger premises was required, the company moved to an old Railway station goods shed in Bourn, Cambridgeshire.
The bigger premises in Bourn allowed the company to expand further, and we began building re-power conversions for the Land Rover market. Overtime the business diversified and began offering various products from engine parts to complete engine conversion kits for: Tractors, Land Rovers, Diggers, Crop sprayers, Military equipment and London Cabs.
In 2001 the business moved to Ruskington, Lincolnshire. Initially the company decided to specialise its work predominantly on Land Rover vehicles and London Cabs, however over time, the decision was made to focus all efforts on the companies’ main line of work; rebuilding the Land Rover 300Tdi as 2.8L, and on the sale of transmission adaptors.
