3.7L Ford Ti-VCT V6 petrol conversion for 2007-on Tdci Land Rover Defender
New Ford 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 petrol engine now available with fitting kit for 2007 on LR Defender. This V6 provides excellent power and torque for any Defender and is a great improvement from either the 2.4 or 2.2 Tdci engines. The engine runs extremely smooth and quite at idle and cruising speeds but will provide that profound 6-cylinder engine note at higher RPM’s.
Engine layout/ type: 6 cylinder, 60 degree V with independent variable cam timing.
Here at M&D we have developed a complete plug and play conversion kit to fit this engine into a 2007- 2016 defender. The kit includes everything you need to convert your LR Defender to this 3.7 V6. Details:
Adaption:The engine is adapted to the standard MT82 6 speed Defender transmission, using our specially designed adaptor plate, in addition to a modified LR flywheel to take the standard Tdci clutch.
Engine mounting brackets:We fabricate our own engine mounting brackets to sit the engine on the standard LR Tdci engine mounting rubbers, so no need to modify the chassis.
Engine management system and wiring:The kit comes complete with a stand-alone engine management system to run the engine. Additionally, a plug and play wiring loom is included. This loom connects to the standard LR bulkhead connectors where the original Tdci ECU would have been, then to the new V6 engine loom. The new ECU controls the standard Tdci Defender instrument panel. The instrument panel (engine check lamp, tacho, engine temperature, oil warning lamp and alternator charge lamp) will work as normal. The engine management system uses the standard LR Tdci throttle pedal.
Cooling:a complete set of hoses and new electric fan is included to plumb up the V6, this conversion uses the standard Defender Tdci radiator.
FEAD (front end accessory drive):The kit uses the standard 3.7 A/C compressor, alternator and tensioner, in addition to a new power steering pump and bracket with idlers.
Exhaust:Special tubular manifolds are fabricated, then join to a new ‘Y’ shape front pipe. The front pipe includes catalytic converters. The front pipe then joins to the standard Tdci silencer and uses the rest of the standard system.
Air inlet:A high flow air filter is included with bespoke inlet hoses running from the wing to the inlet manifold.
Fuel:A new in tank fuel sender and high-pressure pump is used to provide petrol fuel to the new V6 engine, the standard Tdci fuel lines are used.
